eIFL - Electronic Information for Libraries
Aims to facilitate affordable access to electronic scholarly resources by libraries in countries in transition. Started in October 1999 as a joint initiative of the Open Society Institute and EBSCO Publishing. In its original form, it has been offering access to electronic journals, primarily in social sciences, humanities and business, in nearly 40 countries where the Soros
Foundation's network is active.

Denmark
Bibliotek.dk gives immediate access to Danish Libraries
Since late 2000 bibliotek.dk has been giving the general public access to the Danish National Union Catalogue. The Danish National Union Catalogue includes holdings from nearly all Danish
public libraries and most of the publicly available research libraries.

Estonian Library Network Consortium ELNET
Though predominantly a consortium of research libraries, its
membership also includes two major city public libraries, Tallinn
Central Library and Tartu Public Library. The consortium uses

Finland
FinELib, the National Electronic Library, acquires Finnish and international resources to support teaching, learning and research. FinELib negotiates user-rights agreements for electronic resources on a centralised basis for its member organisations. Helsinki University Library, The National Library of Finland, is responsible for FinELib operations and development. The National Library cooperates with universities, polytechnics, research institutes and public libraries and is involved in key national projects.

Helsinki City Library
Ask what you want – an idea for a radio programme. The Library is developing together with a small media company an idea to promote the professional skills of librarians. The basic model is to answer questions presented by phone, and to
explain during the search why certain sources of information are used for this case and some others for another case. If successful, the programme will later be transferred to TV.

The National Repository Library
Receives and stores material transferred from other libraries and
offers the material for the use of other libraries. It serves

Augsburg
A literary campaign is organised in Augsburg each year, concentrating in one author each time. The partners are the Cultural Office of Augsburg, the Augsburg libraries, bookshops, schools and even restaurants.

This project aimed also to involve other German public libraries in creating a virtual Internet library like the FNG in Denmark,
and the Internet Public Library in the USA. Renamed ILEKS (Internet service by subject librarians). Beside Bremen, only six other public libraries form the ILEKS-consortium.

Digital Library NRW
A cooperative pilot scheme together with the public libraries of Cologne, Dortmund and Düsseldorf. These libraries have access to the databases offered by the HBZ to the research libraries of North Rhine-Westphalia and can use them in their reference work.

PB is a research library specializing in fairytales, sci-fi, fantasy and utopias, maintained by Wetzlar City with a very small budget. Its collection is based mainly on donations sent by the publishers in this field.

body on library co-operation to both An Chomhairle Leabharlanna,
and the Library and Information Services Council, Northern Ireland
